Alicia Hurst, LPC, ATR

Licensed Professional Counselor

My training started at Eastern Virginia Medical School where I earned a M.S. in Art Therapy and Counseling. Over the ten years of my career, it continued to develop when I obtained my license as a Licensed Professional Counselor in D.C. and furthermore when I became a Certified Trauma Therapist utilizing the Instinctual Trauma Technique.  It continues still, as I am a life -long student of humanity.

For the last four years I have helped active duty men and women from all military branches, heal and move forward with their lives.  Before that I worked with all ages in an Inpatient, Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Partial Hospitalization programs.

My method of psychoeducation combined with a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Gestalt Therapy, and Positive Psychology helps empower clients to utilize their strengths and become their own change agents.

While I utilize Art Therapy interventions, this is not required in our sessions, however I encourage you to try it at least once if you haven’t yet. No art skill is needed believe it or not.  Just a willingness to try.  You might be amazed at what happens, as I have seen countless times with prior clients.  Also, I am flexible.  If you love music or writing for example, we can work that into our sessions.  Just let me know.

It is my belief that no matter how broken we may feel, we are always whole.  It is my absolute joy and passion to help you see your beauty, your absolute amazing self.  I would love to walk with you on your journey for a little while to help guide you to a healthier lifestyle.
