Lakeiya Cherry, LICSW

Position
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Maryland, Virginia and in the District of Columbia. I’m a graduate of the University of Maryland, School of Social Work. In addition, I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park earning a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. As a result of my education, I have worked in the mental health field for approximately 20 years. My experience working with diverse populations has allowed me the opportunity to support individuals, groups, and families with addressing various needs such as depression, anxiety, grief, anger management, issues with communication, family discord, relationship issues, and parent-child relations.

The interventions I provide are based on the individual that I am working with and the presenting dilemmas. Beyond providing evidenced-based interventions, I believe having a strong therapeutic rapport is essential to the success of the counseling process. My initial goal is to build a trusting relationship and increase your comfort level with sharing information that might not be so comfortable.

As John Donne stated, “No man is an island.” I believe everyone needs support from others at some point in their lives. That does not mean they are weak or incompetent. It just means the situation might be harder to manage independently. That makes us all human. Sometimes all you need is someone to talk to that will listen and provide guidance in a non-judgmental and confidential manner. I also believe therapy is a partnership. Together, we can work towards achieving your desired goals in a manner that best serves you.
